BC Goverment to Open Grizzly Bear Hunt

The B.C. government is proposing to open up grizzly hunting next season in two areas where it’s now banned, despite a recent study that concluded the government is underestimating the number of bears killed each year and recommended a more cautious approach.

Two proposals, posted on the Ministry of Forests website in November, suggest opening grizzly bear management units, or MUs, in the Kootenay and Cariboo regions for limited grizzly bear hunting next spring.  Read the rest of this article from Wendy Stueck by clicking here

Ontario Bear Hunting Outfitter Fined

The Ministry of Natural Resources has fined a woman for allowing a hunter from outside of Ontario to harvest a black bear where his licence wasn't valid.

6-Day Bear Hunting Season to Start in New Jersey

For six days starting Monday, it is legal to hunt deer and black bears with firearms in New Jersey. Alaska Shuts Down Kenai Brown Bear Hunt!

This year on the Kenai Peninsula, hunters killed a record 45 brown bears - five times the average -- under dramatically liberalized state hunting rules, and federal wildlife managers became so concerned they took the unprecedented step of temporarily shutting down the sport hunt on the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge.

Now federal authorities are considering limits on the refuge for next year's Kenai brown bear hunting season, and they are meeting loud opposition from hunters and the state's own game managers. Pennsylvania Bear Hunting Season a Success!

More than 2,300 bears were harvested in Pennsylvania during last week’s season.

According to the Pennsylvania Game Commission, bears were recorded in 51 of Pennsylvania’s 67 counties – including Armstrong, Indiana and Westmoreland.
Preliminary three-day bear hunt harvest results through the Wildlife Management Unit recorded more than 140 bear in Unit 2D – which includes all of Armstrong, and most of Butler, Venango, Clarion, Jefferson and Indiana Counties and a portion of Westmoreland.  Read the rest of this story from Jonathan Weaver by clicking here!
